RUSSELL DENEA, MD, DLFAPA After being nominated to run for NYSPA Treasurer I took some time to think about what I could add if elected to this new position. As many of you know I have been working with NYPSA and the APA for over 12 years in various capacities. I will try to summarize my involvement with the APA both in California, before I moved to the Capital District of New York, and in New York. Below I have listed some of my past activities for your consideration: Southern California Psychiatric Society Member 1975-1994 At this time, I would like to be more involved with the NYSPA Executive Council to foster activities related to Advocacy for our profession, NYSPA educational and professional activities for our members, strategies to increase our funding sources and increased efficiencies with our spending, and outreach to nonpsychiatric physician organizations such as MSSNY and to the American Psychoanalytic Association. As some of you know I have been particularly interested in support for our political action committees (APA-PAC and NYSPA-PAC) and their support for governmental affairs activities. If elected I hope to be able to increase my ability to advocate for our profession as a member of the Executive Council. As someone from “upstate” New York I also hope to bring more of the perspective of those NYSPA members upstate to the Executive Council. Unfortunately, I will not be able to attend the upcoming NYSPA meeting on March, 22, 2014 because of a previously planned family event. I do hope you will feel comfortable supporting me for the Office of Treasurer of NYSPA. If any of you have any questions please feel free to contact me. I have listed my contact information below.
