EDWARD HERMAN, MD, JD
Candidate for NYSPA Treasurer, 2014

My name is Ed Herman. It is an honor and privilege to be given the opportunity to run for the office of Treasurer of NYSPA.

For those of you who don’t know me, I have been one of the representatives from the Westchester district branch for the past five years. I have been on Westchester’s Executive Council for the past 12 years, including having served as President from 2005-2006. I am also a member of the NYSPA’s Psychiatry and the Law Committee. My “day job” is that I am the Medical Director of Community Services at Rockland Psychiatric Center.

The role of NYSPA Treasurer has two components. Most important is the responsibility of monitoring the financial status of our organization. It is critical to ensure that we have adequate financial resources available to be able to achieve our mission of advocating for our profession and for the patients that we serve. This requires establishing and maintaining a budget that is fiscally responsible to our members as well as providing funding for our core mission.

The other function of the Treasurer is to be a member of the NYSPA Executive Council. In that role, the Treasurer represents the membership in helping to set policy for the organization.

I believe that I have the skills and the drive to fulfill both of these roles. I hope that you will support my candidacy by voting for me.

I would like to close by thanking the Nominating Committee, chaired by Deborah Cross, MD. The slate that the Nominating Committee prepared this year ensures that no matter who is elected, the NYSPA membership will have an excellent set of officers on the Executive Council.
